Saludos, Friends and Family,

We continue working our main assignment of digitizing documents in the government archive (Junta Central Electoral).  Melissa and Hector visited this past week and we had a wonderful time together. When we took them to see where we are working, they wouldn’t let Hector in because he was wearing short pants. (They were below his knee) We didn’t know they had a dress code. So while we were showing Melissa around Hector waited outside and observed that they didn’t allow women in with immodest clothing like tank tops and tops with spaghetti straps.  The guard would turn the woman away and then she would pull out a blouse from her purse and put it on over her top and be let in.  Funny. It looks like the work we are doing is about to be completed so we possibly may have a new assignment soon.  There is another archive here in Santo Domingo and there is also a project in the British Virgin Islands our supervisor keeps talking about. So we shall see.

Elections for President of the Dominican Republic are May 30^th.  Constant campaigning from the two main parties has been non-stop ever since we arrived and is very interesting.  We have been told by some of our Dominican senior missionary friends to stay off the streets the day after election because there could by demonstrations by the losing party.

The Garcias visited us at the beginning of April and we had a nice time together

The well has been dug so all has been well with the water until Friday when they had to shut it off to clean the cistern.  The work was more than they expected and it was just turned on this morning, Sunday.  Oh well.  Now everything should be fine.

Our MLS work in Quisqueya is slowly coming along.  I am working with three young adult sisters in music and in teaching Sunday classes. Carlos is working with the Aaronic Priesthood, and is training the branch presidency in how to run a Branch Counsel and also how to organize the finances.  Hopefully when we leave a good music program will be in place, and there will be good teachers and excellent leaders.

Seguimos trabajando en nuestra asignación principal de la digitación de los documentos en el archivo gubernamental, la Junta Central Electoral.  Melissa y Hector nos visitaron la semana pasada y teníamos unos tiempos maravillosos juntos. Cuando los llevamos al lugar donde estamos trabajando, no le dejaron a entrar a Hector porque estaba llevando puesto pantalones cortos.  (Eran debajo de la rodilla.)  No sabíamos que había un código de vestido. Así que mientras estábamos enseñando a Melissa la Junta, Hector esperó afuera y observó que no les dejaron a las mujeres a entrar si llevaron ropa inmodestia como un tank top o camisas con tirantes espagueti. La guardia no le dejaría entrar y luego la mujer sacaría una blusa de su bolsa para poner y podría entrar.  Chistoso.

 Aparece que nuestra obra en este archivo se va a acabar muy pronto. Así que es posible que tengamos una asignación nueva.  Hay otro archivo in Santo Domingo y también hay un proyecto en las Islas Vírgenes Británicas de que nuestro supervisor siempre habla. Vamos a ver.

Las elecciones para el Presidente de la República Dominicana son el 30 de mayo. Los políticos han hecho campañas desde nuestra llegada y ha sido muy interesante.  Hemos sido avisado que debemos quedarnos en la casa el día después de la elección porque podría ser demostraciones por la partida que pierde.

Los Garcias nos visitaron al principio del mes y teníamos un buen tiempo con ellos.

El poso ha sido escarbado y todo ha sido bien con el agua hasta el viernes cuando tenían que apagar el agua para limpiar la cisterna. El trabajo fue mucho más que ellos esperaban y finalmente prendieron el agua hoy en la mañana, domingo. Ni modo.  Ahora todo debe estar bien.

Nuestra obra de MLS en Quisqueya está adelantando lentamente. Yo estoy trabajando con tres hermanas jóvenes adultas en la música y en enseñar las clases de domingo.  Carlos está trabajando con el Sacerdocio Aarónico y también está entrenado a la presidencia de la Rama cómo guiar el Consejo de la Rama y cómo organizar las finanzas. Espero que cuando salgamos, habrá un buen programa musical y buenos maestros y maestras y buenos líderes.
